Dear UVM Community,
Last spring semester brought the easing of mask restrictions on campus, and we ended the academic year with pride in knowing that UVM maintained one of the lowest rates of positive COVID cases among all U.S. college campuses over the past two years. The shared sense of responsibility in our community is inspiring still.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, UVM has consistently followed the guidance and recommendations of medical and public health officials; we continue to do so. Our Fall 2022 COVID-19 operations will be based on statewide guidance from the Vermont Department of Health and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. Full details are available at healthvermont.gov.
We are at a point in the pandemic where testing as a prevention strategy has evolved. With home testing kits widely available, and high vaccination rates among our students and employees, the demand for PCR testing has diminished and the services of a dedicated on-campus testing center are no longer needed. In keeping with this change, UVM’s COVID-19 Information and Service Center will cease its operations as of 2:00pm on July 28.
After July 28, students who are symptomatic or who otherwise require a PCR test should schedule an appointment at the Center for Health and Wellbeing online through MyWellbeing or by calling 802-656-3350. Employees who are symptomatic or otherwise require a PCR test should contact their primary care provider or visit the Vermont Department of Health COVID-19 Testing website for more information on testing availability. As of June 25, 2022, Vermont Department of Health testing sites have closed; however, tests may be available through provider offices and local pharmacies. COVID.gov offers information on ordering at-home tests.
In tandem with changes in how testing is provided, the UVM.Strong@uvm.edu email and the Co-Verified app will sunset operations this month.
Questions regarding COVID-19 may be directed to the following:
Students:
- Questions related to vaccines, email immunizationcompliance@uvm.edu.
- All other questions, email health@uvm.edu or call Student Health Services at 802-656-3350.
Employees:
- Questions related to vaccines, email hrsinfo@uvm.edu.
- All other questions, contact your manager or supervisor or other unit/department/division leadership.
Vaccines remain mandatory for UVM employees and students.
UVM has a limited supply of rapid antigen tests; with your Catcard, you can pick up one test per week at the UVM Bookstore in the Davis Center while supplies last.
Faculty, staff and students returning to campus for the fall semester should consider bringing masks and over-the-counter test kits for ready access in case they are needed. You can decide how you want to take COVID-19 precautions, including wearing a mask, based on your own level of risk. More information to help prevent COVID-19 transmission can be found on the State of Vermont’s COVID-19 website.
We will be monitoring the evolving public health situation and will provide our UVM community with updated COVID-19 operations information as necessary. Thank you for your continued support as we plan for a vibrant fall semester on campus.
Warmly,
Patricia A. Prelock, Provost and Senior Vice President
Michael Schirling, Chief Safety and Compliance Officer
