This spring the University of Vermont’s Fleming Museum is celebrating the work of Alison Bechdel.  The exhibit, Self Confessed! The Inappropriately Intimate Comics of Alison Bechdel, celebrates the decades-long work of Bechdel, who through her books (including Fun Home, a New York Times bestseller that went on to be a Tony-award winning musical) comics (Dykes to Watch Out For) has provided an exceptional perspective on growing up, the relations with family, and the human quest for community.

Bechdel (the Vermont Cartoonist Laureate, a recipient of the MacArthur Foundation “Genius” Grant, and a UVM James Marsh Professor-At-Large) has been a friend and plenary speaker in the UVM Honors College for many years. In February Bechdel sat down with Connor Brustofski ’18 to talk about Fun Home, her educational path to becoming a cartoonist and a graphic memiorist, and her journey to Vermont.
