The Graduate College is pleased to present An Accidental Academic Career?: Finding and sustaining meaning, a lecture by Professor Jan Fook to be held on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at 4:30 PM in Waterman Memorial Lounge (338).
Lecture description: It has been important to me, as it is for most of us, to make a meaningful academic and professional contribution. But it is not always easy to identify what this is, and furthermore, to follow this commitment even when sometimes the academic culture is not compatible. I reflect back on the academic directions I have taken, and the influences which have come together to shape them. I am most proud of my work on critical social work theory and practice, my international development of the concept of practice research, and my championing of critical reflection in professional practice and education. This lecture reflects on how these themes intersect and represent a lifelong contribution.
