The College of Nursing and Health Sciences will mark the 50th anniversary of its physical therapy program with a special event honoring program founder Sam Feitelberg on March 30 in the Grand Maple Ballroom in the Davis Center on the UVM campus.
UVM's physical therapy program began as a bachelor's degree program in 1973, evolved to a master’s degree in the early 2000s, and became an entry-level doctorate (DPT) program in 2006. The degree's evolution was prompted by the increasing scope of physical therapy practice, an expanding knowledge base, and a focus on professionalism, and aligned with the American Physical Therapy Association's vision for all physical therapists to hold DPT degrees by the year 2020.
Alumnus Michael J. Emery, PT, Ed.D., FAPTA, Faculty Emeritus at Sacred Heart University, and Michael Feitelberg, CEO of The Edge Sports and Fitness and son of UVM Physical Therapy program's founding director Sam Feitelberg, will speak at the event.
