K Scholar Program

The Office of Research and Engagement’s K Scholars Program provides support for early career faculty toward submission of NIH K series or equivalent career development grants.

K Scholar Program

Goals

Body
  • Provide career development training in grant writing and proposal development
  • Improve faculty knowledge of grant sponsors, rules of grant mechanisms, and the review process
  • Structured program to produce essential grant sections for K series awards or non-federal equivalent grants
  • Increase funding success rates for K series awards across Larner 

Timeline

Body
  • 10-week program starting 16 weeks prior to standard NIH deadlines
  • Deadlines throughout the program for completion of rough drafts of key grant sections and full draft ~6 weeks prior to submission
  • Offered twice yearly for February/March and June/July deadlines, with 1-on-1 support from Program Directors for October/November deadlines 

Format

Body
  • Six (6) 1-hour sessions addressing key grant components, with a focus on teaching essential grant writing skills and strategies
  • Direct and detailed feedback from Program Directors on all key grant sections
  • Funds for review of the application by an external expert prior to submission (must meet required deadlines to qualify)

K Scholars cohorts are run for fall and spring semesters, with signup between July 1st and Aug 15th and Nov 1st to Dec 15th, respectively.
