Larner College of Medicine
The MRI Center for Biomedical Imaging supports Larner College of Medicine research faculty and other multidisciplinary researchers. As a core facility, we specialize in functional MRI (fMRI), DTI, and neuroimaging. Our state-of-the-art 3T MRI scanner is fully equipped to image nearly any anatomical structure.

State of the Art Equipment

The Philips 3T 7700 XP gradients allow for "high gradient amplitudes of 65 mT/m and high slew rates of 220 T/m/s concurrently, on each cartesian axis.  Options to achieve up to 20% more fMRI sequences or gather 50% more DTI directions with the same voxel size."   We have a full complement of multi-channel, "SENSE or Compressed SENSE" coils for abdominal, orthopedic, and most anatomic regions of the body.

Collaboration and Cutting-edge Techniques

As a core resource for the Larner College of Medicine and the broader UVM research community, we collaborate on diverse projects using cutting-edge techniques in addition to fMRI and DTI, such as:

  • Smartspeed AI (compressed sense)

  • Psuedo-continuous arterial spin labeling (p-CASL)

  • Cartilage and ACL assessment with 3D-T1 TFE, T1rho and ultra-short TE (UTE)

We also support small animal imaging and can accommodate select studies.

Our Dedicated Team

Our team includes Jiming Zhang, PhD,  MRI Physicist and two experienced ARRT certified MRI Technologists; all are available to assist with study design and implementation.

Whether you are launching a new project or expanding an existing one, we're here to help you make the most of MRI's powerful research potential.
