Chair's Message

Welcome to the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Vermont!

Our department is a dynamic and collaborative community of scientists, educators, and trainees who are passionate about understanding the molecular mechanisms associated with protein structure and function in both human health and disease.

We’re proud of the work happening in our labs—from exploring the intricacies of cardiac muscle function to developing cutting-edge, single-molecule biophysical tools that reveal how molecular motor and cytoskeletal proteins associated with cell division and intracellular transport perform their critical duties.

Our faculty are not only internationally recognized leaders in their fields but also dedicated mentors who care deeply about training the next generation of biomedical scientists.

One of the things that makes our department special is the spirit of collaboration amongst our labs and with colleagues across the Larner College of Medicine, the UVM Cancer Center, and beyond. That sense of shared purpose and curiosity is what fuels our discoveries—and makes this a great place to learn and grow.

If you're interested in joining us—whether as a trainee, faculty member, collaborator, or potential donor—I encourage you to explore our research, meet our faculty, and reach out. We’re always excited to connect with others who share our passion for science and discovery.

Warm regards,
David M. Warshaw, Ph.D.
