Program Overview

Enroll in a graduate Master's program while finishing your undergraduate degree.

  • The Microbiology and Molecular Genetics Accelerated Master's program (AMP) is designed for UVM undergraduate science majors so that they may obtain their Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in a total of five years of study.
  • This program is best for motivated students who are interested in enhancing their academic and research background before entering the professional world.
  • You must apply for admission in your junior year and will start taking graduate level classes in your senior year.
  • Full-time graduate student status begins the summer after the undergraduate graduation and will be kept until completion of their Master's degree in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics.
  • Undergraduate students who graduate in January must initiate Masters research in the spring semester and will be expected to continue their research over the summer and fall semester.

Application Process

  • Submission deadline:  Intent forms must be submitted before a student's final semester of senior year (before the end of add/drop for their final semester and some programs require an earlier deadline). We will not approve forms retroactively; at the time of graduation, mid-way through a student's last semester, or after they've completed all courses, they would like to count, so it's important students submit on time. For financial aid purposes, students must have at least one semester left to take.
  • Complete the online application https://gradadmissions.uvm.edu/portal/apply
  • Note that you will be required to include email contact details for the MMG research faculty member who will be your AMP advisor with your application. They will have to upload a letter of recommendation to complete your application.
