Consultative services and noninvasive cardiovascular testing are offered at the University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC), Central Vermont Medical Center, Porter Medical Center, Champlain Physicians Valley Hospital (CVPH), Alice Hyde Medical Center, and Elizabethtown Medical Center. At UVMMC tertiary and quaternary services are available to care for the patients in our region.
Teaching efforts support the education of medical students in the Larner College of Medicine, residents at UVMMC, and fellows training in cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, and electrophysiology.
Clinical and translational research seeks to improve care. Clinical research efforts seek to validate new treatments. Key original contributions include:
- Development of a new, more physiologic approach to pacing of the heart through activation of the His bundle;
- Development of an innovative electrode array and mapping system that enables physicians to determine how to best treat atrial fibrillation on a case-by-case basis;
- Development of novel approaches to treat heart failure with preserved ejection fraction by using cardiac pacing;
- Development of novel methods designed to engage patients with social or economic disadvantages to fully participate in cardiac rehabilitation and reduce their risk of having another heart attack; and
- Development of a novel diagnostic test capable discriminating risk of subsequent cardiovascular events that will allow providers to individualize care.
We are proud of our physicians, scientists, and staff who bring intellectual curiosity, scientific rigor, and fundamental concern to our patients, our students, our colleagues and the communities we serve.
