AAMC Mid‑Career Faculty Leadership Development Program

The 2026 AAMC Mid-Career Faculty Leadership Development Seminar (December 8–10, Westminster, CO) is a selective national program for physicians and scientists with at least two years of experience as Associate Professors (from the date of the seminar). The program is designed to support mid-career faculty in preparing for the next stage of academic leadership.

The Office of Intercultural Excellence will sponsor the tuition for one or more faculty member(s) accepted to the program. Departments are asked to cost-share travel and lodging expenses.

Who Should Apply

Body
  • Physicians and scientists who have held the rank of Associate Professor for at least 2 years and have a minimum of eight years’ experience, beginning with their first medical school faculty appointment
  • Mid-career faculty with demonstrated leadership ability that may include formal administrative, organizational or other types of informal leadership roles
  • Faculty who are actively seeking leadership opportunities to advance to the next stage of their career, including full professorship or other advanced leadership positions

At the completion of the seminar, participants will be able to:

  • Apply critical knowledge from the seminar and create an actionable plan to achieve career goals.
  • Acquire personal and organizational strategies for successful leadership in academic medicine and science.
  • Expand their networks of mentors, sponsors, and colleagues to increase engagement with peers

Institutional Nomination Process

Body
  • The Larner College of Medicine will nominate one or more faculty member(s) for sponsorship
  • Interested candidates must apply internally to be considered for nomination
  • Final participation depends on both institutional selection and acceptance into the AAMC program

  • A 1-2 page letter of interest 
  • A current curriculum vitae (CV)

Applications are reviewed by an internal committee for faculty qualifications, leadership potential, and alignment with program goals.

Selected candidate(s) will be notified by the Office of Intercultural Excellence and will receive guidance regarding how to proceed with AAMC seminar registration and participation logistics.
