Larner College of Medicine

Emergency Medicine Curriculum

Our three-year program at UVM Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont's largest tertiary and Level 1 Trauma center, starts with a month-long orientation featuring search and rescue training, simulation, cadaver labs, and outdoor team-building. A two-day Ultrasound Boot Camp offers a crash course in point-of-care ultrasound, while interns work a few ED shifts to familiarize themselves with the department and team.

Advanced Training Opportunities

Our program, based at a nationally recognized academic medical center, emphasizes emergency care in resource-limited environments. We offer advanced training in global health, rural emergency medicine, wilderness medicine, point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), and EMS medical direction. This blend of academic and resource-limited experiences prepares graduates to be independent emergency physicians capable of caring for diverse patients in any setting.

Our dedicated faculty nurture residents' skills and expertise, fostering a culture of wellness and teamwork. We aim to equip each resident with the tools, mentorship, and experience needed for successful careers in academic, community, or rural emergency medicine while delivering excellent patient care.
