The Honors College is pleased to announce the creation of the Career Development Award, a competitive opportunity that will provide financial support to students who want to gain career and workplace experience. The Honors College Career Development Award seeks to support students who intend to participate in a career-related internship opportunity during the summer of 2015, and who need financial assistance in order to accept an offer for an internship. Two awards of up to $3,500 each will be awarded to Honors College students in the spring of 2015 and will support their internship work throughout the summer.

Only first-year students, sophomores, and juniors in the Honors College may apply for the award. To be eligible to receive the award, Honors College students also must get ready for the workplace by pursuing pre-professional training offered by UVM’s Career Center. Eligible training sessions include any of the regular workshops or advising sessions offered by UVM’s Career Center, including the resume workshop, the internship workshop, an alumni career panel, a networking event, the job fair, an individual counseling session, or other workshops offered by the Career Center. Students must also be in the process of applying for an internship by the application deadline.

Career Development Award applications will be available to students on the Honors College website in January 2015, and will be due on March 17, 2015. Students who submit applications will be evaluated on several criteria, including professional sense of purpose, academic trajectory, financial need, and their plans to continue to promote professional development activities in the Honors College. In addition, applicants will be invited to interview with the college’s Career Development Award Selection Committee in late March, and will learn of their final funding status in early April.

Honors College students interested in applying for the award are encouraged to meet with Career Center counselors early in the academic year to sign up for pre-professional development workshops at UVM, as well as to plan ahead for participating in an internship during the summer of 2015.
