BIO
Laura Valastro (she/her), a full-time Patient Service Representative/Front Desk Assistant at Student Health Services, enjoys answering the phones and communicating with UVM students, staff, and parents. Born and raised in South Burlington, Vermont, Laura received her BA in Women’s and Gender Studies with minors in sociology and theatre. Crisis management and de-escalation strategies are amongst the many skills she has learned from past job experiences, which include working at a domestic violence shelter for more than two years, teaching violence prevention to students and community partners. Her previous work with diverse populations, as well as jobs supporting students with disabilities, have shaped Laura’s ability to listen carefully while encouraging students to lead conversations regarding their health concerns.
She recognizes that students’ life experiences and backgrounds shape how they interact in society; she holds special interest in the importance of inclusive sexual education and meeting students where they are when it comes to supporting them in their care.
Outside of working at Student Health, Laura is an actress and actively partakes in theatre in Vermont. Summer is Laura’s favorite season; she enjoys camping, relaxing at the beach and long walks.
