Our program is centered around a circular recycling system in order to embody sustainability and environmental justice.

Project Details

Overview

Body

Move-Out to Move- In is a student organized system that allows current students who are moving out of the dorms to donate unwanted supplies, furniture, etc. to incoming first year students. Current students (generally sophomores) will be given the resources and opportunities through our project to donate unwanted items in their dorm that they planned on disposing of during move out (mini fridges, microwaves, storage bins, etc.) Move-Out to Move-In will have a drop-off site on each section of UVM’s campus for move-out, and a pickup location for move-in. When all the items are accounted for, a notification will be sent to incoming freshmen to inform them that there is an opportunity for them to acquire some dorm essentials for free. If interested, they can visit our website to register their interest and reserve items based on their availability. Interns will gather the data that results from the email/website and organize each of the donated items with the freshman that intends to take them.

Our Mission

Body

We center our program around a circular system of recycling that embodies sustainability to minimize both the consumption and waste associated with living in a dorm. Incoming students can reduce their consumption as they can acquiredonated items rather than purchasing new dorm supplies. This process also promotes social sustainability and environmental justice by helping to reduce overall move in costs for these students.

Intern Role and Information

Body

Interns will be responsible for performing quality checks of the items that students intend to donate (making sure they work properly and are not significantly damaged). They will work with the team in gathering, organizing, and taking inventory of the donated items to prepare for the move-in event in August 2026. Lastly, interns are expected to help with the move-in process by distributing the proper items to the assigned student.
