The Graduate College

GEC meets as a committee of the whole typically monthly, from September to April. Agendas and materials for GEC members’ review are circulated one week prior to the meeting. Curricular affairs proposals requiring BOT approval, including proposals for new programs, substantial changes, termination, deactivation, etc., should be submitted for review by the Graduate College team at least 10 business days in advance of the GEC meeting (see dates below in table). It is at the discretion of the Graduate College to determine if a proposal can be added to a particular date’s meeting agenda. Academic units and graduate programs are strongly encouraged to engage the Dean of the Graduate College and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Innovation early – starting well before formal votes at the department and academic unit – and iteratively in proposal development.

Please refer to the table below for scheduled GEC meeting dates in AY26-27 and the deadlines for submitting curricular affairs proposals. Proposals approved by GEC are submitted to the Office of the Provost with a request for appropriate further review by the Faculty Senate Curricular Affairs Committee (CAC).

For a curricular affairs proposal to be considered at the February BOT meeting, it should be submitted to the Graduate College no later than the November deadline for the December meeting GEC meeting.

For a curricular affairs proposal to be considered at the May BOT meeting, it should be submitted to the Graduate College no later than the April deadline for the March GEC meeting.

NB: Substantial revisions of a program, proposals of new subject codes, and name change requests all must reach the Faculty Senate for vote at the January meeting, and therefore should be submitted to the Graduate College no later than 10 days before the December GEC meeting.

Please note that these dates represent a best-case scenario. GEC requests for revisions, concerns raised during the CAC public comment period, etc. can extend the approval process.
