Frequently Asked Questions
Where's the best place to park?
As the Fleming is part of the UVM campus, we know that parking can be a challenge. Visitors to the Museum are encouraged to review our Directions & Parking page for the most up-to-date information.
Can I rent the Fleming as a venue?
No, we no longer rent out our spaces for events, however we hope you find the perfect venue here in Burlington. Our friends over at Burlington City Arts created this list of venues and community spaces for consideration.
If you are a UVM department, UVM student group, or a local community organization that is interested in collaborating with Museum staff on future Fleming-related programming, please reach out to fleming@uvm.edu.
How can I schedule something in the Auditorium (Fleming 101)?
Located in the Museum's Lower Level, the Auditorium or Fleming 101 is not managed by the Fleming Museum of Art. To request Fleming 101 for an event, please contact event services at EventServices@uvm.edu. Classes are booked and managed by the Office of the Registrar.
Reserving Fleming 101 does not include any other areas of the Museum, our staff are not able to assist with events or classes, and events held within are not considered Fleming Museum programming unless specifically noted.
Can I sketch in the galleries?
Yes, with pencils only please! We ask that visitors not bring pens, paints, markers, or other permanent writing utensils into the museum. If needed, our Visitor Services attendants can provide pencils for visitors to use.
What items are prohibited inside the Museum?
We do not allow any backpacks, large bags, food, beverages, or permanent writing utensils inside the galleries. We do provide a coat nook where visitors can store these items during their visit.
Can I propose an exhibition or submit artist materials?
The Fleming does not review or respond to unsolicited exhibition proposals or individual artist submissions, whether sent via mail, email, or social media. Please be advised that materials sent to the Museum cannot be returned.
Does the Fleming participate in the NARM program or any other reciprocal associations?
No, at this time the Fleming Museum does not participate in any reciprocal museum programs. Even if you received a NARM (North American Reciprocal Museum) Association membership card from the Museum in the past, you will need to renew with a current member institution.
How is the Fleming responding to updated NAGPRA laws?
Since 1990, the Fleming has followed NAGPRA (Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act) regulations by reporting culturally affiliated human remains and cultural items to the appropriate communities. The Museum has also responded to claims for information and repatriation from tribal representatives. As this work is ongoing, updates will be posted to our Collections page.
