Lucy Merriam, Emily Park, and I represented the Exercise and Movement Science (EXMS) Club at the 2016 Northeast American College of Sports Medicine (NEACSM) conference.
Attending NEACSM was a tremendous learning experience as we heard the latest, cutting edge research in exercise science, met peers from other institutions as well as representatives from various graduate programs. Learning about the graduate options available to Lucy and I, seniors in EXMS, and for Emily as well, a junior taking the first steps in deciding what she wants to do after graduation.
We also attended sessions about the Exercise is Medicine (EIM) initiative which promotes the importance of physical activity for the prevention, treatment and management of chronic diseases. By attending EIM sessions at the NEACSM, we are now eligible to become certified EIM Ambassadors. UVM is already recognized as a bronze level EIM campus; however, the Ambassador certification will provide us with even more tools to further the EIM mission on campus and lead the EXMS club as we strive for silver recognition this year. If you are interested in joining us or would like more information, then please feel free to email us at eim@uvm.edu.
