Paula Deming, PhD, MT, associate professor of medical laboratory science, published a paper in the Journal of Biological Chemistry ((2015) 290:5783-5797 with Dr. Alan Howe. The paper, entitled “Anchoring of Protein Kinase A by ERM (ezrin-radixin-moesin) proteins is required for proper netrin signaling through DCC (deleted in colorectal cancer)” provides insight into the signals governing axon path finding, neural development, and potentially other DCC-related functions.
The 20th edition of the Control of Communicable Diseases Manual was published by the American Public Health Association. Burt Wilcke, PhD, associate professor of medical laboratory science, serves on the publication’s editorial board.

Adjunct faculty member Maria Mercedes Avila was awarded a 2015 University of Vermont Kroepsch-Maurice Excellence in Teaching Award for her work in developing the D1: Racism and Health Disparities in the U.S. course for the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Nursing lecturer Pat Donehower was named to the University of Vermont Medical Center Board of Directors.
Samuel Feitelberg, PT, MS, professor emeritus of rehabilitation and movement science, received the honorary degree Doctor of Science from Utica College for exemplary leadership, activism, and commitment to lifelong learning.
Barry Guitar, PhD, CCC-SLP, professor of communication sciences and disorders, received the 2015 George V. Kidder Outstanding Faculty Award.
Jesse Jacobs, PhD, assistant professor of rehabilitation and movement science, earned the Golden Synapse Award for best paper in 2014 for Effects of Amplitude Cueing on Postural Responses and Preparatory Cortical Activity of People with Parkinson's Disease. Jennifer Laurent, PhD, RN, assistant professor of nursing, received a 2015-2016 UVM REACH grant for her study “Food addiction, high fructose corn syrup, and metabolic and neural correlates in obese children.”
Christine McCarthy, lecturer in the Initiative for Rural Emergency Medical Services, was named Vermont EMS Educator of the Year.
Patricia Prelock, PhD, CCC-SLP, dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences and professor of communication sciences and disorders, was named a Distinguished Alumni from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences in Communication Sciences and Disorders. The award, the premier alumni honor awarded by the University of Pittsburgh, is given to alumni who have positively impacted patient care, clinical services, and disabilities-related research. Prelock will be accepting the award remotely as the SHRS 45th Anniversary Dinner and Awards ceremony coincides with UVM's commencement celebration May 16-17.
The Nuclear Medicine Technology program completed the reaccreditation process in Fall 2014 and received accreditation from the Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology.
