Fourth-year nursing student Quinn Judge considers himself a people-person. He enjoys conversations, getting to know people and lending a hand. A career in nursing matches his personality perfectly:

"I knew that I wanted to have a future career where I am interacting with people to help them. I recognized that nursing was exactly the job where that can happen."

As a child, Judge felt inspired observing his mother, a psychiatrist, work with young people in substance abuse prevention: "My mother has always been an active member of substance abuse prevention in the high schools in Rhode Island," he says. "Seeing what she does for others and experiencing what she has done for me and my siblings growing up inspires me every day to do all that I can for others."

Judge recently completed clinical rotations for public health nursing at a middle school and adult health nursing in the cardiology unit at UVM Medical Center. He looks forward to upcoming rotations in mental health and the university hospital's emergency department.

"I have always appreciated the different areas and specialties you can work as a nurse, so I am not opposed to jumping all around to explore those nursing realms in my future career," Judge says. "I hope to work on a general med-surg floor right after college so that I am able to get all sorts of general nursing experience, and then decide if I want to specialize in a specific area of nursing."

Quinn's outgoing nature also makes him an excellent "Chatty Cat," a student fundraiser for the University of Vermont Foundation.

"I work as a part of the UVM Foundation team to share UVM news with alumni, parents and friends while giving them the opportunity to support UVM academic departments, student financial aid, clubs and all sorts of UVM related things," Judge says. "I started as a caller in my sophomore year and I have been a manager since my junior year!"

When he's not chatting with alumni, working or studying, Quinn enjoys playing intramural broomball with friends.
