Few endeavors are more important to the University of Vermont’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences than opening our doors to the next generation of scholars. Scholarships ensure highly qualified, motivated students can access the financial support they need to succeed. Presently 70% of UVM students apply for scholarship assistance; and President Sullivan has declared scholarship support as the first priority in UVM’s Move Mountains campaign.
Dr. Lorraine Welch, UVM associate professor of nursing emerita, has established a nursing scholarship fund for highly qualified Vermont students entering the RN to B.S. and Direct Entry in Professional Nursing programs.
Welch's love of the nursing profession prompted her to establish this scholarship, and to invite others to contribute so that more dollars can be awarded to potential candidates annually.
“I encourage women and men to seek nursing as a career because it is a multifaceted profession that I believe affords many rewards not the least is making a difference in peoples’ lives. I also believe that as in my experience scholarship support can make a significant difference for nursing students to successfully reach their academic goals. I think many people would agree that donors working together can reach more students as well as enjoy the satisfaction of participating in their success,” said Welch.
