Environment and Sustainability Intern Leader

We are seeking an entrepreneurial professional to lead a cohort of undergraduate students at UVM through a structured internship focused on environmental resilience and stewardship. This part-time role is for anyone who seeks to mentor students, apply their environmental experience and relationships, and help expand UVM’s partnerships with state agencies and organizations.

The internship is part of the Communities of Practice program in the College of Arts and Sciences.

In general, these are managed cohorts of 15-20 students in high impact internship experiences. Leaders are responsible for matching students with internship placements, leading weekly student meetings, and managing UVM’s relationship with partner organizations. Leaders are compensated as adjunct faculty members (about $6,000 per semester, plus supplemental funding TBD).

Strong candidates will have experience in environmental-related Vermont state agencies or organizations, enjoy working with young people and believe in the power of internships. A Master’s Degree is preferred.

 

Local Government and Democracy Intern Leader

We are seeking an entrepreneurial professional to lead a cohort of undergraduate students at UVM through a structured internship focused on local government. This part-time role is for anyone who seeks to mentor students, apply their professional experience in town management/Vermont civics/local politics, and help expand UVM’s partnerships with small towns around Vermont.

In general, these are managed cohorts of 15-20 students in high impact internship experiences. Leaders are responsible for matching students with internship placements, leading weekly student meetings, and managing UVM’s relationship with partner organizations. Leaders are compensated as adjunct faculty members (about $6,000 per semester, plus supplemental funding TBD).

Strong candidates will have experience in town offices/select boards and committees/public administration, enjoy working with young people and believe in the power of internships. A Master’s Degree is preferred.

 

Outreach Coordinator
Center for Community News

This is a full-time, three-year position to help develop the Center for Community News (CCN) at the University of Vermont. CCN is a new enterprise, inspired by the success of UVM’s Community News Service, which will help bring this sustainable model of local reporting to other universities to help solve the growing crisis in local news and information. Through a generous grant and funding from private donors and the College of Arts & Sciences, CCN is embarking on an unprecedented effort to catalogue all of the creative ways that colleges around the country are addressing this challenge with the ultimate goal of becoming a national resource for schools that want to build and expand their academic-news partnerships.

Duties will include creating a comprehensive list of people and programs in U.S. academia; interviewing program leaders; creating profiles for successful models; and developing a framework for best practices that can be applied more broadly. This person will also work closely with the Community News Service and provide some support to those efforts. All of these tasks will be performed under the guidance of the CCN Director.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in related field and two to four years related experience required. Experience in the journalism world preferred. Effective written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills; effective program planning & project management skills; strong computer skills, including proficient use of website management tools, survey/evaluation software, web and social media; competency with data analysis and evaluation; effective marketing and promotion skills; ability to work collaboratively in team environment required.

Salary commensurate with experience.
