Parking Accommodations for UVM Employees

Temporary Accessible Parking for Employees

Employees who require temporary accessible parking accommodations due to a medical condition may request a Temporary ADA Parking Permit (PDF) from the Office of Accessibility Services. This permit provides short-term access — typically up to six weeks — to designated accessible parking spaces on campus while an employee is recovering from an injury, surgery, or other medical necessity.

Requests for temporary accessible parking must include both the completed Temporary ADA Parking Permit form and documentation from a medical professional describing the functional limitation and the expected duration of the condition. The Department of Transportation and Parking Services does not gather or interpret doctor’s notes.

Temporary permits are issued for a limited duration and are subject to review. If the medical condition continues beyond the initial approval period, employees may request an extension by submitting updated documentation to OAS for re-evaluation.

One of the basic considerations in providing this accommodation is access to other reasonable transportation options (for example, the Campus Area Transportation System) from your assigned parking area. Please note that accessible parking does not guarantee a space close to your building; individuals may often walk fewer steps by using shuttle services that provide drop-off closer to destinations.

The Office of Accessibility Services will review each application and supporting documentation and contact the employee within 72 hours with a decision. In some cases, OAS may recommend parking in other appropriate and accessible (by campus shuttle or other means) locations rather than in a designated accessible space. Each case will be evaluated individually.
