Office of Accessibility Services

Accessibility Information for Campus Visitors

Welcome to the University of Vermont! Tell us how we can support your visit.

The Office of Accessibility Services works to ensure that visitors to the University of Vermont can fully participate in campus programs, events, and activities. If you anticipate needing disability-related accommodations during your visit—such as accessible seating, ASL interpreting, captioning, or other accessibility supports—please submit a request in advance using our Visitor Accommodation Request Form so we can coordinate appropriate arrangements.

General Accessibility Information for Visitors

Accessible Buildings

Unfortunately, not all of UVM's buildings are fully accessible. Many buildings on our campus date from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and we're still working to add modern accessibility features to all of them. The vast majority of our buildings are accessible, though, and include elevators and accessible entrances powered by touchplates. There are also accessible restrooms located in every building.

Accessible Parking

There are accessible parking spaces all over campus, close by most of the buildings. If you have any current and valid accessible parking placard (even from out-of-state), you can park in any marked accessible parking spot on campus, without having to notify or coordinate with UVM Transportation and Parking Services.

If you have specific questions about accessible parking, please call UVM Transportation and Parking Services at (802) 656-8686. They are open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. EST to 3:30 p.m. EST. You can also email them at parking@uvm.edu.

ASL Interpretation

If you would like an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter to accompany you on your visit, please let the UVM Office of Accessibility Services know. We provide ASL interpretation services for students, staff, faculty, and visitors to the campus. Please let us know via the Visitor Accommodation Request Form

Buses & Shuttles

UVM offers bus service around campus, as well as to many of the outlying areas of the campus. For your visit, if you would like to take advantage of the bus service, we recommend youvisit the PeakTransit RiderPortal or download the Cats Ride app to your smartphone. This app will show you where buses are on their routes, provide you with any service-related outage updates, and help you know when buses are coming, and how long the wait might be. UVM Transportation and Parking Services also offers detailed information about routes, schedules, and delays.

Campus Map

The UVM campus map provides information about the location of accessible parking, accessible restrooms, and accessible entrances. Go to the Campus Map link and use the lefthand menu to find "ADA Accessibility"; this will bring up information on accessible restrooms and accessible entrances. To locate accessible parking, use the lefthand menu to find "Parking". This will bring up a submenu that includes an "ADA Parking" menu. Enabling any of these features on the map will cause accessibility icons to appear on the campus map, indicating the location of all items.

Campus Tour

We encourage you to sign up for a tour of the UVM campus during your visit! UVM's campus is both scenic and historic, and all tours are led by current UVM students, so that if you have questions about student life at UVM, you have an expert right at your fingertips. We do ask you to make reservations on the campus tour homepage, so that we can keep groups small and manageable. The tour will take you through many general areas of campus (the student center, the library, the quad), but on select Mondays and Fridays throughout July and August there will be additional academic  sessions to pair with your admissions information session and tour (see dates below). You can find the registration within the form for the Group Information Session with which it corresponds.

In terms of accessibility, the campus tour is accessible to mobility devices, and manual wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Service animals are also welcome on the campus tour.

We also offer virtual tours, online student sessions, and a self-guided tour.

Service Animals

UVM welcomes service animals! Many students, faculty, and staff have their own service animals at UVM, and this includes Emotional Support Animals. If you are bringing a service animal with you to campus, please know that your service animal can go anywhere you can go: service animals are allowed in all UVM buildings. However, pets and Emotional Support Animals are not allowed in buildings. If you are bringing an Emotional Support Animal with you to the campus, please reach out to the Office of Accessibility Services beforehand via the Visitor Accommodation Request Form, so that we can coordinate with you on care and access for your Emotional Support Animal.

Wheelchairs & Other Mobility Devices

We apologize, but at this time the Office of Accessibility Servicesis unable to loan wheelchairs or other mobility devices to visitors. However, if you are using a mobility device and encounter any sort of barrier, please let us know immediately, using the Report an Accessibility Barrier form.
