Ian Grimmer is a Senior Lecturer in modern European intellectual and cultural history who has taught at the University of Vermont since 2003. He completed his doctoral studies at the University of Chicago in 2010 with a dissertation titled “The Politics of Geist: German Intellectuals and Cultural Socialism, 1890-1920.” His scholarly interests include modern Germany, the history of psychoanalysis, and social theory, with an emphasis on the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In addition to offering courses on the history of European thought and culture, Ian is also a member of the core faculty of the Honors College and serves as the director of the Integrated Humanities Program. He received UVM’s Kroepsch-Maurice Excellence in Teaching Award in 2010.
