Ian Grimmer is a Senior Lecturer in modern European history who has taught at the University of Vermont since 2003. He completed his doctoral studies at the University of Chicago in 2010 with a dissertation titled “The Politics of Geist: German Intellectuals and Cultural Socialism, 1890-1920.” His main scholarly interests are in modern European cultural and intellectual history, modern Germany, and social theory with an emphasis on the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In addition to offering courses on European thought and culture for the history department, Ian is also a member of the Honors College’s first-year seminar core faculty and teaches in the Integrated Humanities Program. He received UVM’s Kroepsch-Maurice Excellence in Teaching Award in 2010.
