Timur teaches courses on urban and political geography and the geography of the Middle East. Trained as an urban cultural geographer, he completed his dissertation in June 2016 at the University of California, Los Angeles under the title of Mediums of Belief: Muslim Place Making in 20th Century Turkey. Mobilizing ethnographic and archival methods, his research explores the shifting relationship between Islam and the built environment in 20th century Turkey. His work has been published in the Arab World Geographer, City, and the online site Jadaliyya, and he is currently in the process of revising his dissertation for publication as an academic monograph.
