BIO
Richard Gomez is the UVM Innovations (UVMI) Intellectual Property (IP) and Business Manager. In his role, Rick tracks and manages the patent prosecution activities of UVM’s innovative technologies, the financial costs of prosecution and revenue generated from technology licensing, and performs fiduciary and federal compliance reporting as required.
Prior to joining the UVMI office in 2016, Rick worked in various technical capacities for private sector companies in the pharmaceutical, environmental science, and water and air filtration fields. In addition, he performed IP work at a prominent solar technology company, and evaluated numerous Hurricane Sandy storm-damaged properties under NEPA for an environmental consulting firm, to assess whether rehabilitation activities would affect the environment under applicable Federal and State environmental laws and regulations.
Rick earned a B.Sc. and MS degree (Cell Biology) from the University of Vermont, and received both Juris Doctorate (JD) and Masters in Environmental Law (MSEL) degrees from Vermont Law School in 2003. He is admitted to the State Bar of Vermont and is a registered patent attorney with the USPTO.
