The Social Security Administration (SSA) could not confirm that the name, date of birth and/or Social Security Number (SSN) you reported on your FAFSA form are correct.
Carefully review your name, date of birth, and Social Security Number as entered on your FAFSA, which must exactly match your Social Security Card, then follow the applicable steps below:
If you made a mistake on your form and your name, date of birth, and/or Social Security Number on your FAFSA is incorrect, do the following:
- Log into StudentAid.gov and update your information in your Account Settings.
- Once SSA verifies your account status, update the information on your FAFSA form by selecting "Make a Correction."
- Once the information on your FAFSA form has been updated, select "Submit."
If you believe that the name, date of birth, and Social Security Number are correct, then follow the instructions below to have the Social Security Administration update their records:
- Contact the SSA by calling 1-800-772-1213 or by visiting ssa.gov.
- Once the SSA resolves the issue, contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center (FSAIC) at 1-800-433-3243.
- Ask FSAIC to manually sync their data with SSA. You'll be notified by email once a match is confirmed.
- Email sfs@uvm.edu to confirm that your Social Security records have been updated and synced with your FAFSA.
