The Katherine Anne Kelly Award is named after the Class of 2000 graduate who bravely battled serious medical challenges while engaging in UVM student life. The award recognizes a graduating senior who best exemplifies Kate’s passion, energy, and integrity. This year’s award is given to Tiffany Mai (she/her).

A double major in Chinese and Health and Society in the College of Arts and Sciences, Mai has been the president of the Asian Student Union, a resident advisor, an outing leader, the treasurer and president of People of Color Outdoors (POCO), president of the Badminton Club, president of the Tower Society, and a legislative intern.

“Tiffany's story is one of resilience and unwavering determination,” one of her nominators writes. “Upon arriving at UVM amid the global pandemic, Tiffany did not shy away from engaging in campus life and fostering community. She embraced it wholeheartedly. Through her dedication and positive attitude, she not only inspired her peers but also enriched the UVM community.”

Mai’s love for community organization, paired with her academic and student leadership experiences, have clarified the desire to pursue opportunities to incorporate community values with evidence-based practices.

“It’s been a four-year roller coaster where I grew as a person and developed a strong sense of myself and my self-worth,” she shares.
