Scott Thomas, current dean of the College of Education and Social Services, has been appointed interim dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Thomas is an acclaimed scholar of education with a passionate commitment to public education. His research spans the preschool through college spectrum and focuses on issues of student success and the stratification of educational opportunity. He is widely published, with numerous books and peer-reviewed articles published in leading education journals and serves as editor-in-chief of The Journal of Higher Education and co-editor of the book series International Studies in Higher Education. Proir to joining UVM in 2016, Thomas served as dean of the School of Education and vice president for scholarly and academic planning at Claremont Graduate University.
“Dean Thomas clearly has the skills successfully to oversee the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, with the support of the College’s talented current leadership team,” said Sullivan. “I know him as a strategic thinker with rich legislative and development experience.”
Thomas will continue to serve as dean of the College of Education and Social Services during his role as interim dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
