DuMont Meadow, SAP-Ne Demonstration Site (Stowe, VT)

Description: Stowe Land Trust treated a preservation patch of nineteen mature white ash, including ten female trees, five male trees, and four unsexed trees at the DuMont Meadow property in Stowe, Vermont. The trees were inoculated in July 2026 with emamectin benzoate to protect them from the emerald ash borer. They will be retreated every 3 years to preserve genetic diversity and to protect seed trees for future ash regeneration. Forest stewardship practices at this site are supported in part by the Sustaining Ash Partners Network (SAP-Ne), through a demonstration site network showcasing effective approaches for preserving future generations of ash in the face of emerald ash borer.

Roy Mountain WMA, SAP-Ne Demonstration Site (Barnet, VT)

Description: The Vermont Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation observed black ash within the site were becoming infested with EAB. Parasitoid releases began in 2025 and continued into 2026. Injections of emamectin benzoate were conducted in 2026 on black ash (male and female) at the site. Both treatments occurred to maintain ash on the landscape at this important WMA. Injected trees will be monitored for canopy health annually and will be re-treated as needed.

Appalachian Trail Corridor, SAP-Ne Demonstration Site (Tyringham, MA)

Description: The Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) treated a preservation patch of 168 white ash trees along the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) on a hillside where the trail crosses Jerusalem Road in Tyringham, MA. Some trees were first treated in 2021 and then again in 2024, and more trees were added in 2026. Emamectin benzoate was injected into the trees to protect them from the emerald ash borer. They will be treated every 3 years to preserve genetic diversity and protect seed trees for future ash regeneration.
This is part of a network of 21 ash preservation sites, comprising 1378 treated trees along the Appalachian Trail, and it is the largest patch in New England. Forest stewardship practices at this site are supported in part by the Sustaining Ash Partners Network (SAP-Ne), through a demonstration site network showcasing effective approaches for preserving future generations of ash in the face of emerald ash borer.

White Ash Preservation Patches at Smokey House Center

Description: This project focused on preserving white ash trees' presence across Smokey House Center’s landscape in the face of emerald ash borers spread by using a combination of silviculture and chemical treatments. Smokey House staff attempted to regenerate two pockets of white ash within half acre canopy gaps while injecting 20 mature ash trees around the gaps perimeters.

Maine Audubon Ash tree project

Description: The Maine Audubon Ash tree project at Gilsland Farm in Falmouth, Maine had two main goals: to preserve the existing White and Green Ash stand and to reduce risk by removing declining Ash. We treated 15 with an injected systemic insecticide, emamectin benzoate (G4 formula) and removed 10-15 dead or declining ash trees that posed risks. We plan to continue to monitor and treat the ash trees as needed. Forest stewardship practices at this site are supported in part by the Sustaining Ash Partners Network (SAP-Ne), through a demonstration site network showcasing effective approaches for preserving future generations of ash in the face of emerald ash borer.

Cornwall Swamp WMA

Description: The Vermont Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation observed a high density of black ash at the site that is threatened with becoming infested with EAB. Injections of emamectin benzoate were conducted in 2026 on black ash (male and female) at the site. Treatments occurred to maintain ash in the landscape at this important Wildlife Management Area. 18 trees were injected in 2026; 20 trees will be treated in 2027 followed by another 12 trees in 2028. Injected trees will be monitored for canopy health annually and will be re-treated as needed.
