The Department of Neurological Sciences aims to share neuroscience knowledge with learners at the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine and its health network through innovative, active teaching methods, that foster critical thinking and lifelong learning for careers in biomedical science and clinical practice.

Undergraduate Students

Body

Faculty have a significant role in the education of undergraduates, teaching Anatomy and Physiology and Neuroanatomy during the academic year and providing research training opportunities during the academic year and during the summer.

Graduate Students

Body

Department faculty are actively involved in didactic lectures, seminars, journal clubs, lab rotations and serve as research mentors for predoctoral trainees in the NGP, Cell & Molecular Biology Program, as well as programs in the Graduate Medical Sciences.

Medical Students

Body

The department trains medical students in Clinical Sciences, Neuroscience, and Cell Biology, with a three-week Neurology rotation and one week of Neurology-Psychiatry didactics in Clinical Clerkships. Senior opportunities include research, Acting Internship, and subspecialty neurology experiences.  Foundations, Clinical Clerkships, and Advanced Integration. 

Student Interest Group in Neurology

Body

The Student Interest Group in Neurology, SIGN, is an interest group intended to promote medical student awareness and interest in the clinical neuroscience. This group hosts a series of lectures, career seminars, clinical case reviews on core and cutting-edge topics in neuroscience.

Visiting Student Scholarship (VSS)

Body

The Visiting Student Scholarship (VSS) program offers a $2,500 scholarship to encourage visiting 4th year medical students to gain valuable learning experiences in Vermont.

Residency and Fellowships

Body

The Department of Neurological Sciences offers an ACGME accredited Neurology Residency, ACGME accredited fellowships in Neuromuscular Medicine and Clinical Neurophysiology, and fellowships in Headache Medicine, Movement Disorders, and Neuroimmunology.
