Phi Beta Kappa Society
Phi Beta Kappa is the oldest and most prestigious academic honor society in the United States. Founded in 1776 at the College of William & Mary, it recognizes outstanding performance in the liberal arts and sciences and derives its name from the Greek phrase Philosophia Biou Kybernetes: “Love of wisdom is the guide of life.” Membership in Phi Beta Kappa is a rare honor, and academics and employers recognize it as a mark of intellectual breadth and exceptional academic performance.

CALS Academic Merit Awards
Lawrence K. Forcier Academic Merit Awards - CALS Senior
This award is given to an outstanding graduating CALS senior who has distinguished themselves through academic achievement and outstanding service. Named in honor of former dean Lawrence K. Alexander Kende Academic Merit Award - CALS Junior
This award recognizes an outstanding CALS junior with a demonstrated interest in medicine or biomedical research. The award is named in memory of Alex Kende, a former CALS student who graduated from the Biological Sciences program at the top of his class. The recipients are:

CALS - Our Common Ground Student Award
The CALS Our Common Ground Student Award recognizes an undergraduate and graduate student enrolled in the UVM College of Agriculture and Life Sciences who has worked to advance UVM’s Our Common Ground values. Warren R. Stinebring Outstanding Senior in MMG Merit Award
Dr. Stinebring was the chair of the Department of Microbiology in the College of Medicine from 1967 to 1978 and this award, created in 1997, is in recognition of academic excellence and professional growth demonstrated by a student majoring in microbiology. The recipients are:
