Projects and Programs

Mobile integrated simulation curriculum

Body

The University of Vermont Department of Nursing has integrated immersive virtual reality simulation into its curriculum to enhance clinical education and prepare future nurses and nurse practitioners for real-world patient care. Complementing traditional simulation experiences, the program provides students with additional opportunities to develop clinical skills, critical thinking, communication, and decision-making in realistic, repeatable scenarios. Through customizable virtual environments and interactive patient encounters, learners gain confidence and competency while applying classroom knowledge in a safe and innovative setting. The initiative expands access to experiential learning and reflects UVM's commitment to advancing nursing education through technology and evidence-based practice.

Emergency Medicine Research Associate Program

Body

The Emergency Medicine Research Associate Program (EMRAP) provides students with the education, training, and infrastructure needed to participate in clinical research within the emergency department. Under the supervision of University of Vermont Medical Center emergency physicians, research associates screen and assist in enrolling patients in ongoing research and quality improvement projects, gaining valuable experience in emergency medicine and clinical investigation. EMRAP courses also count as elective credits toward the EMS minor, offering students a unique opportunity to combine hands-on research experience with their academic studies.

Mobile Simulation Program

Body

The Mobile Simulation Program delivers high-fidelity, interprofessional education directly to hospitals across the region, bringing advanced simulation training to both UVM Health Network affiliates and partner institutions. Led by faculty in adult and pediatric emergency medicine, the program focuses on high-acuity, low-occurrence clinical events that require rapid, coordinated team responses. Current curricula emphasize maternal and neonatal resuscitation and the management of difficult pediatric airways, providing healthcare teams with realistic, hands-on experiences that strengthen communication, clinical decision-making, and patient safety. By bringing simulation into local practice environments, the program helps ensure that clinicians throughout the region are prepared to provide exceptional care when seconds matter most.
