AutoCAD

AutoCAD logoAutoCAD is a commercial computer-aided design (CAD) and drafting application by Autodesk. If you’re a student or instructor at UVM, you can use your UVM email address to sign up for Autodesk Educational Access. This will let you install and license AutoCAD (as well as select other Autodesk products) on a personal or UVM-managed computer.

Planning on traveling overseas?

Certain apps available through UVM, including AutoCAD, may be subject to export regulations. If you plan to bring your computer with you when traveling, be sure to review the relevant License Agreements and Terms of Use. Sign up for Educational Access

  1. Navigate to https://www.autodesk.com/education/edu-software/overview. From the list of all products, select AutoCAD if you’re on Windows or AutoCAD for Mac if you’re on Mac.Select AutoCAD version.
  2. Select the appropriate role, enter your UVM email address in the NetID@uvm.edu format, and fill out UVM’s address (85 South Prospect Street, Burlington, Vermont, 05405) and other information. When you’re done, click Continue.Entering UVM info
  3. You should get an email from Autodesk. Click Complete account setup. When prompted, create a password, read and agree to the terms of use, and click Create account.Finish creating your Autodesk account.
    Prompted for a passcode?

    You may get a prompt to enter a one-time passcode (OPT). If you do, you should receive an email containing this passcode, which you can then enter into your browser.

Install AutoCAD

Requires an Autodesk account

Before you can install AutoCAD, you’ll need to set up an Autodesk ID with Educational Access using your UVM email address. If you haven’t done this yet, please see Sign up for Educational Access above.

  1. Navigate to www.autodesk.com and click Sign in near the top-right corner of the page.Sign in to Autodesk.
  2. Sign in using your Autodesk ID.Enter the credentials to your Autodesk account.
  3. Click the profile icon near the top-right corner of the page and select Products and services.Autodesk products and services.
  4. Click Install by AutoCAD if you’re on Windows or by AutoCAD for Mac if you’re on Mac. Then, review the terms of use and click Accept.Install the desired version of AutoCAD.
    Not seeing AutoCAD?

    If AutoCAD doesn’t show up under Products and services for you, your browser might still be remembering your access from before you registered for Educational Access. Try signing in using a private browser window.

  5. Run the downloaded file and proceed through the installer. When it finishes, it will prompt you to sign in. You can either do this now or you can close the program to do it later. For directions on this part of the process, see License AutoCAD below.

License AutoCAD

Requires an Autodesk account

Before you can license your installation, you’ll need to set up an Autodesk ID with Educational Access using your UVM email address. If you haven’t done this yet, please see Sign up for Educational Access above.

  1. Launch AutoCAD.
  2. When prompted, click Sign in with your Autodesk ID.Sign in to AutoCAD with your Autodesk ID.
  3. A new browser tab should open. If prompted, sign in using your Autodesk ID.Enter the credentials to your Autodesk account.
  4. After signing in to the web browser, click Open Product to continue the sign-in process in AutoCAD. If your browser asks about opening AutoCAD, click Allow.
  5. Review the privacy statement, select your data sharing preferences, and click OK.AutoCAD privacy settings.

You should now be all set!
