A campus is more than a collection of offices, classrooms, and dorm rooms. Emphasizing the need for spaces to support development, rest, and meaningful connection, the Division of Inclusive Excellence established and supports spaces around campus to support your holistic wellbeing.

Lounges

Allen House Lounge

Body

Located on the first floor of Office of the Vice Provost for DOIE's headquarters in the Allen House, this multi-use lounge space was designed with faculty and staff of color in mind to have a space to build community through or just be. Complete with coffee and snacks, the Allen House lounge can function as an informal meeting space, a nice lunch spot, or a place to take a few minutes to put your feet up and scroll on your phone.

  • Automatic espresso machine
  • Mini fridge
  • Snacks
  • Modular furniture

Hours of operation

M-F 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM 

Unity Lounge

Unity Lounge is an inclusive, welcoming, and student-focused space that empowers  growth, development, access, and connection.

Established in 2007 in response to activism by students of color, the Unity Lounge is an intentional, intersectional space within the Davis Center that centers students who are members of marginalized communities.

Space includes

The Unity lounge is wheelchair accessible with moveable furniture, and large, mounted monitor screens. There are three distinct spaces within the lounge:

  • Main lounge
  • Conference room
  • Prayer/Meditation space

Hours of Operation

The Unity Lounge is open every day from 8AM - 5PM daily. Access after these hours requires a CatCard and is limited to Davis Center hours of operation.

Identity Centers

Each of our four identity centers have communal spaces for gathering or working and other resources that set up our community for success. This includes kitchens, food pantries, and printers.

Prayer/meditation

Body

UVM has three dedicated spaces to the spiritual and religious practices that keep you grounded. They are located at

  • Unity Lounge, Davis Center
  • Allen House, 3rd Floor
  • Interfaith Center

Ablution stations

Body

An ablution station is used for the ritual called “Wudu” in Islam, which requires washing of the head, mouth, nose, arms and feet before formal prayer and reading scripture.

UVM has two ablution stations:

  • Interfaith Center, located in restroom off of the fireplace room, and
  • Living and Learning Building E Lounge (key required).

Gender-inclusive restrooms

Body

UVM supports the option of individuals to use the restroom that meets their individual needs or in which they feel safest, which includes the use of gender-inclusive restrooms.
