ADHD Medication Management Process

If you have been diagnosed with ADHD, the Center for Health and Wellbeing can help you manage your treatment.

Students Previously Diagnosed with ADHD Have the Following Options

Body

1. Continue to obtain your prescription from your home provider

The State of Vermont has no exclusions for prescriptions of controlled substances written from outside of the state. Therefore, your provider can send your prescription to a local pharmacy for pick up or delivery. There are two pharmacies located on/near campus.

Note: This DOES NOT require your provider to be licensed in Vermont.

2. Transfer your care to a Vermont provider

Burlington Community Provider: You can establish care at a medical or psychiatric practice in the greater Burlington area that accepts your insurance.

Case Management through UVM Counseling and Psychiatry Services (CAPS) is available to support you in your search for a local provider.

UVM Provider: You can seek approval to receive ADHD care through the Center for Health & Wellbeing (CHWB); which includes Student Health Services (SHS) and CAPS. To do this, you must obtain documentation from your home provider and submit it to the CHWB ADHD Coordinator. These records must include ALL of the following:

  • A copy of the initial diagnostic evaluation
  • Treatment history
  • Treatment plan
  • List of current medication over past 6 months

Please refer to the ADHD checklist for a detailed explanation of required documentation & submission instructions. ADHD Checklist

After you submit your documentation:

Body

1. The ADHD Clearance Approval staff will review your records.

2. If the documentation you provided meets requirements, we will send you a secure message through the MyWellbeing portal to schedule an appointment with a provider to continue your treatment.

3. If additional information is required, we will send you a secure message through the MyWellbeing portal with necessary next steps, which may include resources for further evaluation.

Please note the clearance and approval process may take up to 4-6 weeks.

Important Considerations

Body

UVM’s Center for Health and Wellbeing does not provide ADHD evaluations. If you would like information on local resources to pursue an evaluation in the community, please email us at ADHD@uvm.edu

Only submit required information, not full medical charts, for ADHD medication management. Doing so may result in delays in the approval process.

Be sure to have a supply of your medication to cover the processing time (4-6 weeks.)
