Welcome to UVM Extension Community Horticulture Program!

If you are interested in transferring to UVM or reactivating as a certified Extension Master Gardener volunteer, please complete the required steps below volunteering.

1. Transferring from another state? Our program is only able to accept certified Extension Master Gardener volunteers as transfers at this time. EMG students or interns from another state moving to Vermont will need to complete our EMG course. If you are a certified Extension Master Gardener and are moving to Vermont and would like to transfer your certification here, please provide a letter or email from the Master Gardener Coordinator of the state you are transferring from that indicates the year you completed their course, and any volunteer efforts you have participated in, and the date when you completed certification in their state. Email this information to master.gardener@uvm.edu. In addition, please complete the required steps 2-4 below.

Reactivating? Please follow steps 2-4 below.

2. Complete the Online Volunteer Application. NOTE: As of 2018, all students are required to complete the Volunteer Application. If you are re-activating then you do need to fill out this application again, even if you did it during one of our courses, or have re-activated once before in the past.

3. Complete the Minor Protection Training and background check form or Fingerprinting process on the Youth Protection page. These steps are required for all new volunteers, transfers and reactivations regardless of if you plan to work directly with youth or not. Please note, if you have previously completed this background check form within the last 3 years, then you do not need to do it again, but please contact master.gardener@uvm.edu to confirm the time frame.

4. Submit a $50.00 Transferring/Reactivating fee at the following site - https://securelb.imodules.com/s/1690/19/interior.aspx?sid=1690&gid=2&pgid=1207&cid=2495 Select Option 2.

NOTE: If you are transferring from another state and have volunteers hours that you have completed for that state within the calendar year that you transfer to Vermont, you can include those hours with your Vermont volunteer hours when you submit your annual Vermont volunteer hours form @ the end of the reporting year.

Please explore the resources on our website, including the Volunteer Handbook and Volunteer Projects. Submit any follow up questions to Lisa Chouinard @ master.gardener@uvm.edu  or 802-656-9562.

We look forward to working with you!
