The Department of Emergency Management is responsible for leading and/or coordinating the mitigation, preparation, response and recovery from incidents, emergencies and disasters affecting the university, and safeguarding the campus community through the university's fire and life safety program.

The University of Vermont is a proud member and supporter of IAEM and the University and Colleges Caucus UVM is one of many Emergency Management entities within the state of Vermont, affiliated with the State of Vermont's Vermont Emergency Management. The University of Vermont is a Storm Ready Certified campus and was the first in the state to achieve this certification.
