The Keith M. Miser Leadership Award is presented to the student who has been successful in campus leadership endeavors. This award honors Keith's idea of student involvement and recognizes a student who has contributed to the campus through their leadership activities. One of the two recipients of the Keith M. Miser Leadership Award is Ryan Webb (he/him/his pronouns).
A native of York, Maine, Ryan graduates with a biological science major from the College of Arts and Sciences. Throughout his stellar academic career, he has contributed to diversity and inclusiveness at UVM through fraternity governance and community service.
Ryan was research assistant in the Frietze Lab from September 2019¬¬ through May 2020 and completed an internship with Sanofi Genzyme. He is the founder of UVM Biotech, a club he established for students interested in promoting their understanding of the biotechnology industry through the lenses of science and business.
His service as president of the Phi Mu Delta fraternity caps a UVM career of deep involvement in fraternity/sorority life at the university. He was an active voice promoting racial tolerance in the fraternity system, helping to host the program "Into the Multiverse: Breaking Down Racial Barriers" with Joey Oteng ’15 that addressed race/racism and the practice of “everyday anti-racism.” He served RALLYTHON alternately as Fraternity & Sorority Life relations chair and vice president of community relations. This annual UVM fundraising effort benefits The Children’s Hospital of Vermont and has raised over $650,000 since its inception.
Ryan has received broad recognition for his contributions to Fraternity & Sorority Life activities, winning the UVM FSL Outstanding Junior Award, the Andrew "PJ" Kasprisin Fraternity Man Service Award and Fraternity Man of the Year Award.
He is treasurer of the UVM Boulder Society, which recognizes senior men who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship and service to the university and surrounding community, and is a member of the Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society.
After graduation, Ryan will be working as a research assistant/biocurator at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard to support the Clinical Genome Resource before pursuing graduate studies.
