Academic Regalia (Cap and Gown)

Information for Graduates

Body

Academic regalia (cap and gown) for bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees will be available to purchase either in person at the UVM Bookstore in the Dudley H. Davis Center or through the UVM Bookstore website. Regalia is required to participate in commencement ceremonies and celebrations.

Regalia will go on sale Monday, April 27th (both in-store and online). Pre-orders are not necessary.

Regalia for medical degrees have already been preordered and will be distributed by the Larner College of Medicine in the Given Courtyard in front of the Office of Medical Communications on May 11, 12, 13 and 14 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.

Stop by the UVM Bookstore April 27 - May 1 for Senior Celebration. Students can pick up their cap and gown, diploma frame, graduation announcements, or Grad Pack. All in-stock diploma frames will be discounted 20% and there will be a Class of 2026 water bottle giveaway and a raffle for a diploma frame from Church Hill Classics.

Students who graduated in summer/fall 2025 or January 2026 or who are living out-of-town and will be participating in the May 2026 Commencement ceremonies should order their caps and gowns (regalia) online no later than Friday, May 8 for standard ground shipping and no later than Thursday, May 14 by 2 pm EST, for next business day express shipping. Regalia can either be shipped to a valid home address or held at the UVM Bookstore for pickup during normal business hours or during the Bookstore’s extended hours commencement weekend. NOTE: If you are placing an online order to be shipped to an international location, the recommendation is that you not have it shipped, but rather select to pick-up your regalia at the UVM Bookstore the weekend of Commencement.

If you require special gown sizing, please contact the Bookstore to ensure that you will have a gown that fits you. Caps and gowns are made of Oak Hall’s GreenWeaver material, a lightweight polyester-like material made from 23 post-consumer recycled plastic bottles.

To participate in May 2026 Commencement ceremonies, a complete outfit is required for all degree candidates (Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctoral and Medical).

Undergraduate students may opt to sell their stoles back to the UVM Bookstore until Friday, June 12th. Stoles in clean, re-saleable condition will be purchased back by the store for approximately half their retail value, dry cleaned, and reused for the following year’s Commencement.

Information for Faculty

Faculty Regalia

Regalia for faculty members can be rented through the UVM Bookstore. Please contact Brendan Andrews at bandrews@uvm.edu. You will need to provide your height and weight, highest degree, name of the institution that granted the degree, and head wear choice (mortarboard or tam).  The cost of the rental is $80 - $125, depending on your degree and whether or not a tam is selected.

Note: standard rental orders must be placed no later than noon on Friday, April 24. A second rush order will be placed for orders taken after April 24 and before May 7. There will be a $50 Rush/Late charge per order placed as part of the second order.

All rental regalia will be available for pick up at the Bookstore on the afternoon of Friday, May 15 and must be returned to the Bookstore no later than 4:30 pm on Tuesday, May 19.
