BIO
Mat Failla is a physical therapist and residency-trained, board-certified sports physical therapy specialist with expertise in orthopedic and sports rehabilitation, joint biomechanics, and quantitative MRI tissue assessment. His research focuses on recovery after severe knee injuries, including anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) ruptures, and how tissues adapt and respond to trauma. His goal is to improve the early identification and treatment of post-traumatic osteoarthritis.
Dr. Failla uses clinical and functional assessments, motion capture, biplane fluoroscopy and quantitative MRI to evaluate recovery. He is particularly interested in applying these techniques to regenerative rehabilitation approaches that improve patient outcomes. He collaborates with colleagues in the UVM Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation and the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
Courses
- PT 320 - Understanding Evidence in PT Practice
- PT 328 - Independent Research Project
- PT 344 - Patient Management: Musculoskeletal 1
