Dr. LaRoche is a nationally recognized researcher whose work centers on understanding how neuromuscular, metabolic, and biomechanical factors shape mobility, particularly among older adults. His research also focuses on advancing interdisciplinary solutions that support health and independence, including assistive robotics, smart-home and wearable technologies for dementia care, innovative exercise delivery, and rural health initiatives. His leadership and mentorship draw from this research foundation, helping to advance faculty scholarship, interdisciplinary collaboration, and success in securing external funding.
Previously, Dr. LaRoche served as Associate Dean for Research in the College of Health and Human Services at the University of New Hampshire and Professor of Exercise Science, where he led a $30 million research portfolio and co-developed the college’s first interdisciplinary PhD program.
