The American College of Sports Medicine designated UVM an ‘Exercise is Medicine’ (EIM) campus in October, and Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin declared the month ‘Exercise is Medicine on Campus’ (EIM-OC) month to celebrate campuses’ role in fostering healthy, physically active communities.
Exercise is Medicine is a global health initiative that highlights the importance of physical activity in the prevention, treatment and management of chronic diseases. College and university campuses play an integral role in the effort by partnering with healthcare providers to connect community members with physical activity resources.
The UVM Exercise Science club offered body composition and cardiovascular risk assessments in support of the initiative.
The EIM-OC leadership team includes Connie Tompkins, assistant professor of exercise and movement science; David Brock, associate professor of exercise and movement science; Jennifer Laurent, assistant professor of nursing; and exercise and movement science students Brianna Mandry ‘16 and Dana Benger ‘16.
