An introduction to the neonatal population at greatest risk for feeding difficulties, this lecture will address oropharyngeal development and suck/swallow coordination and outline a multidisciplinary approach to treatment that involves neonatology, speech-language pathology, occupational therapy and nursing. Implementation in resource-limited settings including The Gambia, West Africa, will also be discussed.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Dr. Yanick M. Vibert, attending neonatologist and professor of pediatrics, Drexel University College of Medicine, Dornsife School of Public Health Global Health Program, holds degrees from Spelman College, the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and Harvard School of Public Health. She is a master trainer with the Helping Babies Breathe Neonatal Resuscitation Program and has worked to support community-based maternal and child health capacity-building projects in Haiti, Guyana, Uganda and The Gambia since 2002.

Dr. Vibert received the 2014 March of Dimes Roosevelt Award for Service to Humanity and was featured in the May 2015 Philadelphia Magazine Top Doctors Edition ‘The Global Health Warriors’.
