Elizabeth Adams, Au.D., clinical professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD), has been named interim chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Dr. Adams has more than 25 years of experience in higher education, clinical education, scholarship, and academic leadership. A nationally certified and Vermont-licensed audiologist, she has been a dedicated educator, clinician, mentor, and leader within the department and across the university.
Throughout her career, Dr. Adams has demonstrated a strong commitment to student learning, evidence-based teaching, and the preparation of future health professionals. She has mentored students across graduate audiology practica, undergraduate clinical internships, and interprofessional education initiatives. Her academic scholarship focuses on educational leadership, faculty mentoring, and the ways institutional policies shape the experiences and career development of clinical faculty, women, and faculty of color in higher education.
At UVM, Dr. Adams has played a significant leadership role through service on departmental, college, and university committees. She has chaired the College of Nursing and Health Sciences Curriculum Planning Committee since 2014 and has been an active contributor to faculty governance through United Academics. Her professional service also includes leadership positions with the Vermont Speech-Language-Hearing Association, service on the Vermont Secretary of State Hearing Aid Advisory Board, and contributions to continuing education through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Dr. Adams earned her Doctor of Audiology degree from A.T. Still University, a Master of Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Vermont. She also completed a Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) Fellowship at UVM.
