Doug Gilman joined the College of Education and Social Services (CESS) Dean's Office in 2014. He is responsible for responsible for the design, coordination and implementation of strategic communications in alignment with UVM's Strategic Imperatives. Doug oversees and manages the College's website, social media channels, news, photography, and advertising strategies promoting student success, academic programs, research, service, and events.
Doug's professional experience spans more than 35 years in program leadership, management, education, communications, and community collaboration. Prior to UVM, he served as the state director of Starbase Vermont for over 18 years, leading an innovative youth education program to inspire students in science, technology, engineering and math. Under his leadership, the program doubled its capacity by expanding throughout the state, serving over 22,000 students and 200 teachers from 70 schools in 32 districts. He also served as a volunteer on the non-profit Board of Directors for Starbase Vermont, Inc. During his time on the board, he served as President and as Treasurer.
A retired veteran with over 20 years of military service in the United States Air Force and the Vermont Air National Guard, Doug is also a UVM alumnus.
Most importantly, he is a proud father of two daughters (UVM graduates) who are always his first priority.
