BIO

Claudia BecerraMéndez (she/her) is a teacher and writer from Puerto Rico. She is the author of two poetry collections: Sirenas (2023, Riel Press) and Versión del viaje (2018, Folium Press; 2025 Alastor Press).  

She holds a bachelor's degree in Hispanic Studies with a minor certificate in Gender Studies from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, and a Ph.D. in Latin American poetry from Brown University. Prior to UVM, she taught classes on language, gender, and culture in the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. 

Her academic and creative interests are broad and continually expanding, focusing on the relationship between the human and non-human in literature and film. Her work has appeared in numerous journals, magazines, and newspapers, including Caribbean Studies Journal, Inti, Words Without Borders, Rialta, Lucerna, América Invertida, Periódico Claridad, Cruce, among others.
