This year's theme for the JP Marton Series is JAZZ! All year, we will present concerts, guest speakers, and a symposium to celebrate jazz in all its forms.

Note: while many of these events are free and open to the public, tickets for Lane Series concerts must be purchased in advance.

Brazilian music to lift your spirit and soothe your soul! Enjoy swing and bebop standards along with jazz renditions of familiar songs in French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and English. Bossamba is: Maggie MacDougall (vocals), Wayne Hawkins (piano), Lou Pappas (bass), and Mark Foster (percussion).

Part of UVM School Of The Arts year-long "JazzArts" series; co-presented with the School of World Languages and Cultures.

Alumni from around Vermont and New York City reunite where it all began. Over the past 20 years the Music Program at UVM has fed not only the local Burlington jazz scene, but also contributed to enduring creative jazz and popular music well beyond. Led by Rob Duguay (JazzGeneration, Songevity), Dan Ryan (Dan Ryan Express), and Russ Flynn (XAmbassadors), these musicians will play in a variety of settings and formats.

Free and open to the public.

We're excited to host Krin Gabbard, professor of classical literature, film studies, and literary theory. His talk will focus on the extraordinary music that Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn wrote for the 1960 film Paris Blues, a story about two American jazz musicians working in Paris. Gabbard is the author of Jammin’ at the Margins: Jazz and the American Cinema, Black Magic: White Hollywood and African American Culture, Hotter Than That: The Trumpet, Jazz, and American Culture, and Better Git It in Your Soul: An Interpretive Biography of Charles Mingus

Described as “classic” and “endearingly sexy”, with “the chops to deliver an emotional wallop”, singer Audrey Bernstein is spontaneous, nuanced, and swings like crazy. Joining her onstage is a remarkable line-up of Vermont musicians: Evan Allan on piano, Geoff Kim on guitar, Jeremy Hall on bass, Patricia Julien on flute, and Dan Ryan on drums.
