Anna Schmidt

PhD Student in Biology

Alma mater(s)
  • B.S. Biology and Environmental Sciences
  • University of Wisconsin-Madison
Affiliated Department(s)

Department of Biology, Rubenstein Ecosystem Science Laboratory

BIO

Anna's research interests include freshwater food web ecology, specifically the roles that zooplankton play in lake ecosystem function. At UVM, Anna is using experimental mesocosms to investigate the drivers of zooplankton diel vertical migration (DVM) behavior and the impacts of DVM on carbon cycling in lakes. She is also involved in various global collaborative plankton projects through the Global Lake Ecological Observatory Network (GLEON). Anna completed her B.S. in Biology and Environmental Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and was a technician on Great Lakes studying plankton ecology before beginning her Ph.D. at UVM in 2021.

Area(s) of expertise

Freshwater zooplankton ecology, zooplankton migration behavior, carbon cycling in lakes
