The UVM Beekeepers Club

The UVM Beekeepers seek to educate members of the UVM community on the ecological importance of honeybees. We keep our hives on campus in the meadow across from the UVM Interfaith Center. Tours of the apiary are conducted during September by officers in the club. Be sure to join us on Instagram for the latest!

Hey, I'm Parley Burklund, I'm the beekeeping secretary and one of the hive managers. I'm a sophomore who just got back from Ireland where I took a folklore class wherein I did a final project on the folklore of beekeeping. Personally my favorite activity is the candle making.

I’m Jackson, a Hive Manager for UVM beekeeping. I’m a 4th year Evolution and Ecology student here at UVM. I have also been a beekeeper for five years now. Using this experience it’s my job to tend to the hives, keeping the bees happy and healthy. You can also find me helping run club events to teach people about the world of beekeeping.

Hi!! I’m Maya and I am one of the co-presidents of the UVM Beekeeping club. I joined the club during my first year at UVM and became a president as a sophomore. My favorite event we host as a club is honey extraction, because it’s usually a full day event and there’s always extra honey and honeycomb left over at the end. I also love doing hive tours, because they’re a great way to educate the members of the UVM Beekeeping club about our on-campus beehives.

Hi! I’m Simone (she/her) and I am a hive manager for the club!  I joined the club after taking the Honeybee Culture course at UVM and falling in love with bees. I assist with all things relating to the hives, including inspections, hive tours, maintenance and more. My favorite activities include honey extractions and educational events, because I love to learn more about the bees and taste the honey!

Hello! My name is Ian and I am a co-president of the beekeeping club! I joined in my first year at UVM and got involved as an officer in sophomore year! After a sophomore class on honeybee culture, I really dove into exploring my passion for beekeeping. My favorite event is probably the hive tours, as I really enjoy getting to take people in to see the bees and learn about how the hives operate! Watching the bees in action never ceases to impress me.

Hi, my name is Bianca, and I am the treasurer of the UVM Beekeeping club. I help manage the financial part of the club by purchasing needed supplies while managing our budget.
My favorite part about the club is the ability to educate fellow students about the importance of pollinators! My favorite event is our honey extraction and sales. Here, we can see the hard work the bees have been doing all year, taste the delicious honey, and fundraise for our bees!
